Mahoning County to auction surplus property

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County commissioners this morning approved an agreement with an auctioneer for a 3 p.m. Oct. 21 public auction of surplus property at the county engineer’s office, 940 Bears Den Road.

Auctioneer George Roman will get 5 percent of the gross proceeds plus advertising costs.

Trucks, vans, former sheriff’s cruisers, trailers, generators and stainless steel dog cages are among the items to be sold.

Most of the listed vehicle odometer readings exceed 100,000 miles, with one former sheriff’s cruiser having traveled 259,720 miles.

Almost all of the items are described as being in poor condition, and many of the vehicles are more than 10 years old.

The commissioners also accepted Ohio Department of Public Safety grants to the sheriff’s office of $32,637 for impaired driving enforcement and $24,886 for selective traffic enforcement, with no local matching funds required for either grant.

The commissioners announced that their next meeting will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Lowellville Village Hall, 140 E. Liberty St.
