Woman says airline suggested pumping breast milk in pet area

CHANTILLY, Va.

A woman who flew from Boston to Washington said staff with United Airlines at Dulles Airport suggested she pump her breast milk in the pet-relief area.

Liz Meagher Cooper is the mom of a 4-month-old. She told WFXT-TV in Boston that after she left the plane early Monday at Washington’s Dulles Airport, she asked a woman at the counter where she could pump.

Cooper said the woman told her she could use the bathroom, which Cooper rejected as unsanitary. Cooper said the woman then suggested the pet-relief area.

A spokesman for Dulles said the airport does not have dedicated nursing areas but is working to develop such lounges.

A spokesman for United says the airline will reach out to Cooper to apologize for not providing “more suitable accommodations.”

Dog rescued after fall into crack at Volcanoes National Park

HONOLULU

A Big Island family was reunited with their dog after a rescue team removed the Labrador retriever trapped in a crack in the earth at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Volcano resident Marta Caproni and her boyfriend were walking the 4-year-old chocolate Lab, Romeo, and his litter mate, Tommy, at the park when Romeo ran off and disappeared, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

“We had no idea that to the left of this gravel area, there is a major crack in the earth about 20 feet deep,” she said. “Romeo went jumping around this area and disappeared. We couldn’t tell he had fallen in.”

Caproni said they tracked Romeo’s faint whining and discovered that it was coming from deep inside a crack.

A rescue team was able to remove Romeo by sending in Ranger Arnold Nakata. A park news release said he found the dog apparently unhurt, and he was above ground by around noon Sunday.

Priest pleads not guilty to endangering boy with musket

HACKENSACK, N.J.

A New Jersey priest accused of pointing a functioning musket at an 8-year-old boy in a church’s rectory as part of a football rivalry has pleaded not guilty to child endangerment and aggravated assault charges.

The Rev. Kevin Carter entered his plea Tuesday during a brief hearing in Hackensack.

The charges stem from a Sept. 13 incident at St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church in Little Ferry.

Carter, an avid New York Giants fan, claims it was a joke that was misinterpreted.

He and the boy, who roots for the Dallas Cowboys, were talking about football shortly before the incident occurred. The NFL teams were scheduled to play that night.
