FREMONT, Ohio

The Ohio Turnpike and a group that promotes the state’s history have teamed up to pay tribute to a former president from the Buckeye State.

A newly painted barn that sits along the toll road near the northern Ohio city of Fremont depicts President Rutherford B. Hayes.

The 19th U.S. president made his home in Fremont. It’s also home to his presidential library and burial site.

Officials from the turnpike and the Ohio History Connection were expected to gather Tuesday for a ceremony to dedicate the barn painting.

It was completed by Scott Hagan. He’s the artist who painted a barn in each of Ohio’s 88 counties to celebrate the state’s bicentennial in 2003.

The turnpike says it’s likely there will be more Ohio history barns paintings down the road.
