Two sentenced for roles in death on Winona Drive

YOUNGSTOWN

Two people were sentenced today for their roles in the death of Shawn Cortez, 17, on Aug. 17, 2014, on Winona Drive.

Dejon Jenkins, 19, received a sentence of five years from Judge Lou D'Apolito in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Darnell Wilkerson, 18, received a sentence of four and a half years.

The two are accused of taking part in a fight that ended with the death of Cortez.

Fifteen people were charged overall.

Jenkins' brother, David, 18, will be sentenced Wednesday. He is accused of firing the shot that killed Cortez.
