Trial gets underway in Dashonti Baker case

YOUNGSTOWN — Testimony is underway today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court before Judge John Durkin in the attempted murder trial of Dashonti Baker, 23.

Baker is accused of shooting Jaquez Brown, 23, twice in the head at South and Dewey avenues on March 15, 2014.

Assistant Prosecutor Meghan Brundege told jurors during opening statements that Baker was upset that Brown was present when Baker was robbed the day before the shooting of his phone, wallet and 60 grams of heroin.

Brown was shot twice in the head but lived.
