Harrison, Gaye up for Songwriters Hall

George Harrison, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Madonna, Tom Petty and John Mellencamp are among the A-list contenders nominated for the 2016 Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Blondie, Gloria Estefan, the Isley Brothers, Sly Stone and Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards also are up for the top honor. Winners will be inducted next June in New York City.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame gave The Associated Press a list of the nominees in advance of the official announcement, set for today.
Nonperforming songwriters nominated for the honor include Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Berry Gordy, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Max Martin, who has co-written No.1 hits for Britney Spears, Katy Perry, the Weeknd and Taylor Swift.
Eligible members have until Dec. 11 to submit their votes for three non-performing nominees, two performing nominees and one deceased nominee.
Performing nominees also include Michael McDonald, Tom T. Hall, Jeff Lynne and Steve Miller. Lionel Bart, Bert Berns and Roger Miller are among the deceased nominees.
The 2016 Songwriters Hall of Fame Annual Induction and Awards Gala will take place June 9, 2016.
The Weeknd, One Direction to perform on Jingle Ball tour

The Weeknd, One Direction and Selena Gomez are slated to perform on the 11-date Jingle Ball tour in December.
IHeartRadio announced Monday that the tour will kick off Dec. 1 in Dallas with One Direction, Calvin Harris and Demi Lovato, and visit Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C., before concluding Dec. 19 in Tampa, Fla.
The lineup of performers varies for each city, though roughly 10 acts will hit the stage at each show.
Tickets go on sale Monday.
Supergroup Dead & Company giving away 10K tickets to show

Members of the Grateful Dead and John Mayer are giving away 10,000 free tickets to a concert next month.
The veteran band and Mayer, who joined forces for the supergroup Dead & Company this summer, announced Monday that 5,000 fans will have a chance to win two tickets each to their Nov. 7 show in New York City.
The group has partnered with American Express for its music series, “American Express Unstaged,” for the sweepstakes. Film director Brett Ratner will direct the concert’s livestream from Madison Square Garden.
Fans can enter to win tickets through Thursday on Dead & Company’s website. No tickets for the show will go on sale.
The band is encouraging fans who attend the show or watch the livestream to donate to the Robin Hood Foundation, an organization fighting poverty in New York City.
