WARREN

A free community health fair, featuring more than 20 agencies serving Trumbull County residents, is from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at Warren SCOPE, 220 W. Market St.

There will be a scavenger hunt in which prizes are offered for gathering signatures from agencies, and free blood screening and back massages will be available.

Food is available for purchase, and flu shots will be offered by CVS Pharmacy for $31.99. For information, call 330-399-8846.

YWCA event

YOUNGSTOWN

The YWCA of Youngstown will host a Week Without Violence event from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave.

Lunch will be available for purchase from the Big Green Thing – Better Food Truck. A portion of food sales will benefit the YWCA. At noon, speakers will discuss domestic violence and systemic barriers for women of color. For information, call 330-746-6361, ext. 112 or go to ywca.org/youngstown.

Cancer event

The Warren-Trumbull NAACP is offering a “Talk with the Docs” event about breast and prostate cancer from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull Community Action Program (TCAP) office at 1230 Palmyra Road.

Featured speakers are Drs. Kimberly Jackson Pinn and Fareedah Goodwin Capers.

Vision workshop

NORTH LIMA

The Eye Care & Vision Therapy Center, 11995 South Ave., is offering a free workshop on vision therapy, conducted by Dr. Joseph Pederzolli, O.D., from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 14.

If therapy is indicated, the first therapy visit is free for a family member of an attendee. In this hands-on workshop, participants learn how to assess, test for and distinguish visual conditions that keep some children from doing well in school, and how vision therapy works.

Alzheimer’s 101

GIRARD

Alzheimer’s 101, a free three-session course, is offered by the Alzheimer Network from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 and 24, at the Girard Free Library, 105 E. Prospect St.

The first session will focus on initial symptoms, progression, changes in behavior and medications. During the second session participants will learn about community programs and services available to help including requirements to participate. The last session reviews suggested methods of coping with changes brought on by the disease.

People wishing to attend these sessions must register in advance by calling 330-788-9755. Handouts will be provided. Participants are not required to attend all the sessions.

Health workshop

WARREN

Mercy Health Youngstown, formerly Humility of Mary Health Partners, is offering a one-hour workshop, “Health at Home,” on Oct. 15 in the Warren Room at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, 667 Eastland Ave.

The morning session runs from 11 a.m. to noon and the evening session runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The workshop and all materials are free, but reservations are required. Call 330-480-3070.

The workshop includes a reference guide that provides information about more than 200 common health problems as well as tips on preventing illness and injury and when to seek medical attention.
