Canfield Arby’s to open this month

CANFIELD
When the new Canfield Arby’s opens in mid-October, customers might notice this location is unlike others.
The new, franchise-owned Arby’s, 13 Talsman Drive, was built with a facade that differs from what customers have come to expect.
“It goes along with the character of Canfield,” said Alan Setz, chief financial officer for Pipino Management, which manages the property. Niles Restaurant Business Inc. has the license to the Arby’s location. Pipino Management has eight Arby’s locations.
The new, bricked Canfield Arby’s features large windows and has “a unique design to it,” Setz said. “It’s aesthetically pleasing outside and comfortable inside.”
The former Arby’s that sat at that spot opened in late November 1983 and closed in March.
Before it was demolished, the Cardinal Joint Fire District, Ellsworth and Green township fire departments used the building for training purposes.
After review by Canfield’s design-review and historical-review committees, Setz said the design was changed to give it a more historical look with older-looking light fixtures and a circle-top window.
“They were very eager to comply,” said Joe Warino, Canfield city manager.
The construction took place while the Ohio Department of Transportation worked its widening and replacement project on the U.S. Route 224 bridge over state Route 11. The work began in March and is expected to be completed this month.
The new Arby’s comes with a smaller dining area with more focus on the drive-thru business since about 65 percent of the business is done through the drive-thru, Setz said.
Arby’s is an international fast-food chain with 3,342 restaurants in four countries. The chain started in Boardman on U.S. Route 224. Brothers Leroy and Forrest Raffel started the roast-beef and milkshake restaurant in 1964.
