Three students research to be presented at national conference

Research by three students in Youngstown State University’s doctorate of physical therapy program has been accepted for presentation at a national conference in physical therapy.

Drew D. Snyder of Macedonia, Teale K. Bennett of Aurora and Jeremy C. Oller of Creston, Ohio, will present “Attitudes Towards Controversial Issues in Healthcare Policies in Doctor of Physical Therapy Students” at the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting. The meeting will be Feb. 17-20, in Anaheim, Calif.

It is the first time that YSU DPT students have presented at the conference.

In addition, the research has been accepted for presentation at the Ohio Physical Therapy Association’s Fall Scientific Symposium 2015 on Friday in Columbus.

The purpose of the research was to determine the attitudes of physical therapy students toward some of the significant and controversial changes in health care legislation at the federal and state levels.

The data can inform strategies to design advocacy activities and assess the physical therapy curriculum in the content area of professionalism.

Snyder, Bennett and Oller are in their second years in the DPT program. The three started the research as a class project in the language, culture and health class taught by Weiqing Ge, associate professor of physical therapy.
