AUCTIONS
Rockview Christian Church, 925 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, will have a basket auction Oct. 18. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m., and drawings will be at 3. The cost is $5, and tickets are available at the door. Refreshments will be available, and there will be special raffles and a 50-50 drawing.
Saxon Club, South Meridian Road, Youngstown, is sponsoring its 25th annual basket auction Sunday to benefit the scholarship fund for YSU students. Doors open for bidding at noon, and the auction begins at 2 p.m. The auctioneer will be Casey Malone of WFMJ-TV. Entry will cost $5 at the door; tickets will include a chance to win a free door prize, hot dog, chips, coffee, pop or water and 25 auction tickets.

VFW Auxiliary Post 3538 will have a card and bingo party at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the post home, 157 Lowellville Road. There will be games, door prizes and a basket auction. Hubbard Friends of the Library will sponsor a book sale Wednesday through Saturday at the library, 436 W. Liberty St. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Friday and $2-a-bag from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge nor preview night. Hardcover books are $1; oversized paperbacks, 50 cents; and standard paperbacks, 25 cents. There also are CDs, DVDs, record albums, puzzles and games for sale. Bonnie Viele is book sale chairman. Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Austintown, will host a flea market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and each Tuesday into October, weather permitting. Vendors can set up early in the large spaces, which cost $5 each. Refreshments are available.
FUNDRAISERS
St. Francis Pet Care will sponsor the annual pet masquerade ball from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 24 at Tod Park, Park Avenue, Girard, as fundraiser for the children’s program, St. Francis Cadets for Pets. The event will feature carriage rides with Raja, the group’s 250-pounds-plus mascot. Also featured will be CJ, a talking and dancing parrot, and his mate pirate, Benny, a costume contest, pet parade, treasure hunt, bobbing for treats, agility maze, games, prizes, children’s jewelry, mask-making and face-painting. There will be entertainment, dog bandanas and holistic pet products and more. Donations are $5 each for pets and adults; children attend for free. RAFFLES
Legacy Dog Rescue, Friends of Fido and Youngstown Dogs plan a basket raffle from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Davidson’s, 3636 Canfield Road, Canfield. About 80 baskets on various themes and/or gift cards will be raffled. Winners will be drawn at 5 p.m. but need not be present. First Presbyterian Church of Mineral Ridge, 3654 Main St., will have a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. All clothing is priced to sell. Proceeds will help send the Rev. Jamie Milton and eight other youth and adults on a mission trip to Peru in June.
Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothes for the entire family. Many new fall items are available. Surprise sales will invite customers to pull a ticket in-store and receive a percentage off their purchase. The hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday. Pumpkins for Pups is a fund-raiser to pay for veterinary care for dogs at Trumbull County Dog Pound. Pumpkins, cornstalks and other fall items will be sold from today through Oct. 17 at the pound, 7501 Anderson Ave., Howland Township; hours are from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. It is sponsored by volunteers at the dog pound.

New Hope United Methodist Youth, 21 Fairview Ave., Niles, are sponsoring a bus trip to Amish country from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. There will be breakfast at the Dutch Valley Restaurant and visits to the Amish flea market and bakery, shopping in Berlin, a variety show at the Amish Theater and dinner at an Amish home.
