Trumbull County terminates contracts with sewer contractor

WARREN — The Trumbull County commissioners have terminated the sewer contracts the county has with contractor Marucci & Gaffney in Vienna and Kinsman.

The commissioners had a special meeting this morning to vote and get an update from Randy Smith, Trumbull County sanitary and highway engineer, who said attempts to negotiate a resolution failed.

Smith said it's unclear whether termination of the contracts will result in a lengthy delay in the completion of the projects, though the fall weather may hamper further progress on paving and landscaping left unfinished.

Smith noted that the county has withheld some of the funds to Marucci & Gaffney because of problems found with the project, including pipes that have been as much as 80 percent full of water before they have even begun to function as sewers.
