McLean, Klim lead Penguins at All-Ohio

Cedarville

Youngstown State senior men’s cross country runner Austin McLean placed eighth at the All-Ohio Championships Friday. His time was 24:52.68.

The Penguins placed fourth overall out of 47 teams. This was the highest finish for the men at the All-Ohio Championships since 2001.

Other leaders for the men were Alan Burns with a time of 25:14.54 to take 26th, Ethan Wilson, 25:20.82, 32nd; Ryan Sullivan, 25:21.06,34th; and Jon Hutnyan 25:39.68, 53rd.

Junior McKinsie Klim led the Penguins’ women’s cross county team with a time of 22:17.47 as the Penguins finished 16th. Klim placed 17th. YSU’s other top runners were Jennifer Muhlenkamp who was 70th with a time of 23:09.27 and Melissa Klim, 23:23.57, 96th.

Ebony Lifeline banquet scheduled for Oct. 23

Charles Traylor will be the guest speaker when the Ebony Lifeline Support Group inducts its 2015 class at the 19th annual All Sports banquet on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Social Hall.

Slocum to speak at Curbstone meeting

Jerry Slocum, Youngstown State University men’s head basketball coach, will be the guest speaker Monday when the Curbstone Coaches meet at 6 p.m. at . Lucianno’s Banquet Center in the Wedgewood Plaza. The event is open to the public.

Foligno, Saad score twice for Blue Jackets

Nick Foligno and Brandon Saad (Mahoning Valley Phantoms) scored twice to help the Columbus Blue Jackets rout the visiting Nashville Predators 7-1 on Saturday night in their preseason finale.

Rene Bourque, Jared Boll and Brandon Dubinsky also scored, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 25 saves.

Cody Hodgson scored for Nashville.

Pekka Rinne allowed all seven goals before being replaced Carter Hutton with 5:50 left in the third period. Rinne made 26 saves.

Crew falls to Red Bulls

HARRISON, N.J.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the go-ahead goal in the first half and New York held on to beat Columbus.

The playoff-bound Red Bulls (15-9-6) have a three-point lead over D.C. United in the Eastern Conference with four games to play. Despite consecutive losses, the Crew (13-11-8) clinched a playoff spot with Orlando City beating the Montreal 2-1.

Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark tried to kick the ball to Harrison Afful, but it was intercepted by a charging Connor Lade. Lade then crossed the ball to Wright-Phillips, who scored off a header in the 21st minute for his 15th goal of the season.
