Speaker, awards to highlight Easter Seals and YHS dinner

Easter Seals and Youngstown Hearing and Speech, 299 Edwards St., will host the 64th annual celebration dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at The Embassy, 5030 Youngstown-Poland Road.
The evening will include recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Americans Disability Act and individuals who serve to better the lives of children and adults with disabilities, special needs and communication challenges in the community.
Keynote speaker will be Claudia Gordon, chief of staff, U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. She is the first female African-American lawyer and also the first deaf student to graduate from the American University Washington College of Law, Washington, D.C., in 2000. She is committed to advancing inclusion, access and equality of opportunity for people with disabilities.
Awards will be presented to:
Youngstown State University Delta Zeta Sorority, the Anthony Vivo Community Service Award recognizing the group’s dedication in helping others with disabilities and special needs
Stephanie Mansour, the May Vetterle Award for overcoming a speech and hearing disorder while serving as an inspiration to others with communication challenges
Richie Jenkins, the Frances Schwebel Solomon Spirit of Life Award recognizing his commitment to providing a spirit of life and giving back to the community
Special presentations will include recognition of Easter Seals and YHS 2014-2015 child, youth and adult representatives and induction of 2015-2016 representatives and highlighting year-end accomplishments.
