Library Resources for Job Searchers

YOUNGSTOWN

The YWCA of Youngstown, 25 W. Rayen Ave., will have a Library Resources for Job Searchers event from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 15.

A representative from the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will discuss the various online resources available for job searching.

Utilities to use apps to help with storms

YOUNGSTOWN

Crews from FirstEnergy Corp.’s Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Co. and Toledo Edison utilities will use smartphones and laptop computers to more efficiently assess damage to the electrical system and help expedite power restoration during major storms.

When severe weather causes power outages, Ohio Edison, which operates in all of Mahoning County, about half of Columbiana County and the majority of Trumbull County, The Illuminating Co. and Toledo Edison personnel will identify and address safety issues, such as downed wires and other hazards, and conduct an initial assessment of the damage to send back to dispatchers.

FirstEnergy developed two new apps for employees to automatically enter damage information into the company’s outage management system.

Solar energy

CANFIELD

There will be an informational session on solar electric and solar thermal technology from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Attendees will get an overview of how the technology really works in our climate.

Four case studies will be discussed.

Other topics on the agenda include applicable government incentives, including federal tax incentives and the Rural Energy for America Program, or REAP grant.

Good Morning, Canfield event

CANFIELD

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s Good Morning, Canfield event will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. Oct. 16 at Canfield High School cafeteria, 100 Cardinal Drive.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. The event will provide a community update from Canfield Mayor Bernie Kosar, Canfield Township Trustee Stephen Maszczak and Canfield Schools Superintendent Alex Geordan.

Aaron Young, executive director of Mill Creek MetroParks, also will discuss the parks’ countywide operating renewal levy on the November ballot.
