Harrises mark 50th anniversary with a cruise

Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Harris Jr. of Youngstown celebrated their 50th anniversary Aug. 27 with a nine-day Caribbean cruise with their children.

Their children are Venise Abel, Thomas Harris III and fianc e, Kim Lewis, and Florence Seldon, all of Youngstown, and Quentin (Latoya) Harris of Akron. Nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren complete the family.

The couple married Aug. 27, 1965, at the bride’s parents home in Youngstown. They are members of New Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harris, the former Vernell Mitchell, worked as an assembler—welder for General Motors in Lordstown and retired after 30 years. She is a deaconess at the church and a member of Perusers Book Club.

Her husband retired in 1984 from U.S. Steel Ohio Works, where he was a gun operator. He also retired in 2010 as a youth leader for Mahoning County Children’s Services. He is a U.S. Army veteran.
