Holloway to join Hall of Fame today

Staff report

Barbara Holloway will enter the Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame today during the organization’s 39th annual induction ceremony and awards banquet.

The event will take place at A La Cart Catering.

In addition to Holloway’s induction, the organization will honor Secretary of the Year Katherine Gifford. Award winners to be recognized include division winners for games and series, high averages and 700 series or better during the 2014-15 season.

Holloway is being inducted for meritorious service to the Youngstown-Salem USBC Women’s Bowling Association. She has been a member of the Salem Women’s Bowling Association for 29 years, the Warren Women’s Bowling Association for two years and the Youngstown-Salem Women’s Bowling Association for six years.

Holloway’s highest average was 179 and highest three-game series was 579. Her high game was a 296. She has bowled in 12 Salem Women’s Bowling Association City Tournaments, 19 Ohio Women’s Bowling Association State Tournaments and nine national tournaments.

Holloway — a self-employed caterer for 20 years — was director of the Salem Women’s Bowling Association for three years and president of the same group for seven years. Under her leadership, the organization earned the National BVL Award in 2004. In 2003, Holloway received the Ohio Local Associations President’s Club Ruth Smith Award.

Gifford has been secretary-treasurer of the Tuesday Night Bombers for 15 years and secretary of the St. Elizabeth Hospital League — both at Wedgewood Lanes.
