Ministry weekend

AUSTINTOWN

Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 4490 Norquest Blvd., will conduct a ministry weekend Oct. 10 and 11. Masses will be at 5 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday in the parish center.

The enthusiasm inspired by Pope Francis’ American visit, and themes of Christian discipleship that are part of the recent Diocese of Youngstown pastoral plan will be incorporated into worship. After each Mass, parishioners and visitors will have the chance to talk with representatives from parish ministries and organizations.

Special worship

YOUNGSTOWN

St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., will begin a sensory friendly worship service for families with children of all abilities at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 11.

This 30-minute service is designed to provide a safe and accessible worship space, where children will be given the freedom and encouragement to know themselves as completely loved by God. Families with young children and children with special needs, especially children on the autism spectrum, are encouraged to participate.

Church anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN

Zion Hill Baptist Church, 220 Jefferson St., will celebrate its 83rd anniversary during a program at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 11 on the theme “They That Wait Upon the Lord” from Isaiah 40:31. Guest speaker will be Clevon Dukes of New Hope Baptist Church in Farrell, Pa.

Musical program

EAST LIVERPOOL

First United Methodist Church of East Liverpool, 200 W. Fifth St., will present a musical program of piano solo, organ solo, piano and organ duets and piano quartets using two grand pianos at 4 p.m. Oct. 11.

The program will feature Valley church musicians joining talents. The concert will be the dedication of the newly acquired concert grand piano.

The concert is free and all are welcome. A free-will offering will be taken and a reception will follow the program.

Soul Purpose

CORTLAND

Soul Purpose will be in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Bible Church, 2878 Warren Meadville Road.

The quartet is based in Grove City, Ohio, and offers a “one-of-a-kind” traditional southern Gospel sound. Their ministry began in 1972 as The Sounds of Joy. In 1995, they took the new name.

The group’s newest CD is “Bought with a Price.” Members are Don Clapsaddle, bass; Jim Barrett, lead; Judy Clapsaddle, baritone; and Misty Clapsaddle, tenor.

A nursery will be provided. A free-will offering will be taken.

For Women’s Day

YOUNGSTOWN

The Women’s Day Committee of Price Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave., will host a jazz brunch from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 11 with live classical, contemporary and smooth jazz by David Leonard & Company.

The event is a kickoff to the annual Women Day’s celebration set for 11 a.m. Oct. 26. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Valerie Tate- Everett, who is co-pastor with her husband, the Rev. Paul D. Everett, at Phillips Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Hartford, Conn. Call 330-743-1339 for information.
