Salem Public Library plans October events

Salem Parks and Recreation Department and Salem Public Library have teamed for a “Go Wild in the Park” annual scarecrow contest. Entries are one per Salem family, school classroom, organization and business.
Kickoff for the contest will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. Participants will receive contest rules and regulations and frames for supporting scarecrows. The history of scarecrows will be presented and light refreshments will be served.

Entries will be set up at the library and Salem Memorial Building at 11 a.m. Oct. 10. Frames will be available for setup. Judging will follow, and winners will be announced in the Salem Memorial Building gym at 1 p.m.
Fall Tech Camp for fourth- through seventh-graders will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Quaker Room of the library. Google Earth will be used to explore hometowns and canyons of the ocean. Registration is required for this free program. The library also will offer a Getting Crafty Class for adults at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Quaker Room at the library. The craft will be a “Gobble Gobble Mix Mason Jar,” decorated to look like a turkey, and a recipe for a snack mix will be included. All craft materials will be provided. It is free and open to the public, but registration is requested at the library website.
