Ohio death-row inmate asks to drop appeals, be executed

CLEVELAND (AP) — An Ohio inmate who was sentenced to death for killing a college student and a friend says he wants to drop his appeals and be executed.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports that 39-year-old Gregory McKnight said in a hearing more than a month ago that he wants to be put to death for killing his friend Gregory Julious and 20-year-old Emily Murray.

McKnight wrote a letter to Judge Michael Merz in May asking to appear before a judge to drop his appeals and make his plea for execution. Merz accepted McKnight’s withdrawal motion but hasn’t ruled on the case.

McKnight wrote that the “good thing about knowing and accepting that you’re going to be murdered is you can tell the truth that’s never been told without regrets.”
