Low-cost rabies vaccine clinic Sat.

LISBON

Columbiana County Health Department and Lisbon Veterinary Clinic are conducting a rabies vaccination clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Columbiana County Career & Technical Center, 9364 state Route 45 South, Lisbon.

The cost of the vaccination is $5 per dose for pets 3 months and older. All dogs must be on a leash, and all cats must be confined or in a cage. Rabies vaccination certificates will be issued for all pets vaccinated, said Wesley Vins, Columbiana County health commissioner.

Drug, gun charges

YOUNGSTOWN

Police investigating drug activity and serving a search warrant at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at 142 Willis Ave. found an AR-15 assault rifle, two .12-gauge shotguns, 9mm and .25-caliber semiautomatic pistols, and 38-caliber, .40-caliber and .223-caliber ammunition.

Small amounts of suspected marijuana and heroin also were found there, reports said.

Arrested on drug and weapons charges was Antwane Peeples, 24, who lists the home as his address. He is in the Mahoning County jail and is expected to be arraigned in municipal court today.

Safety Day Saturday

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Ace Hardware, 10395 Main St., will sponsor a Safety Day from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Village police will be distributing safety material as well as fingerprinting children. The fire department will hand out free smoke detectors and other fire-prevention materials.

Two hurt in collision

BRACEVILLE

Two drivers suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash at state Routes 534 and 5 at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

A Ford Freestyle driven north on Route 534 by Lindsay Mangeri, 30, of Windham collided with a Ford Ranger driven west on Route 5 by Chad Higgins, 41, of Mogadore.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Both drivers were taken by ambulance to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center in Ravenna.

W. Branch meeting

BELOIT

West Branch school board will have a special meeting at 3 p.m. today in the principal’s conference room at the high school, 14277 Main St.

The board will discuss the compensation of public employees. The meeting will adjourn to an executive session, and no action will be taken.

Future of Firestone Park to be discussed

A community meeting to discuss Firestone Park will be at 7 p.m. Monday in Columbiana High School auditorium, 700 Columbiana-Waterford Road. See what’s planned for the restoration of Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park and provide community input.

Garfield Road section to close for 45 days

YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning County commissioners voted to close Garfield Road between Green Beaver and Germantown roads in Beaver Township for 45 days beginning Monday to replace a bridge superstructure.

They also authorized James Fortunato, county purchasing director, to advertise for a public auction of surplus county vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies.
