“In the Spirit of Christmas,SDRq Victorian Players Theatre, Centaur Stage, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, auditions 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. “In the Spirit of Christmas” is an evening of one-act shows with Christmas themes, different each year; 2015 will include “A Little Women Christmas,” “The Implausible Claus” and “Christmas in Oz.” A fourth may be added if interest is strong. There are roles for actors of all ages, sizes, types and experience, and opportunities for first-timers and children age 5 and older; several teenagers and older adults also are needed. Old Fashioned Musical Christmas Show, Area Community Theatre of Sharpsville, Pierce Opera House, 100 N. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville, Pa., auditions from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 18 and from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 20. Interested performers should bring a Christmas song of their choice for the accompanist and be prepared to sing 32 bars. Participants also may be asked to do a brief reading from the script. Tom Dudzick’s “Greetings!,SDRq directed by Eric S. Kildow, Kent Trumbull Theatre, 4314 Mahoning Ave., Warren, auditions from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19 and 20. Actors will be provided cold readings from the script. Auditions are open to the public. The work follows Andy, who has a sweet Catholic mother, a sour Catholic father and an intellectually disabled younger brother named Mickey. When he brings his Jewish, atheist fiancee to meet the folks on Christmas Eve, his worst fears about family blowups are realized. But when Mickey suddenly spouts the word “Greetings!,” the entire family’s belief system is turned upside down. Characters are: Andy Gorski, 33-year-old male; Randi Stein, Andy’s Jewish fiancee, 29-year-old female; Phil Gorski, Andy’s father, mid-60s male; Emily Gorski, Andy’s mother, mid-60s female; and Mickey Gorski, Andy’s brother, intellectually disabled but inhabited by a wise, ancient spirit, 30-year-old male.
