Akron Children’s Hospital is breaking ground Wednesday for an $18.6 million, 51,000 square feet construction project at its Mahoning Valley campus. It is the first of a four-phase project that will span the next several years.

The first phase, projected to be completed by April 2017, includes a two-story addition to Building A, renovations to portions of the building and creation of a new entrance for the Beeghly campus.

Overall, the first phase of the project will add 47 exam rooms, including subspecialty and primary care, and a new service, sports rehabilitation.
