‘Krampus,” a movie about the evil Christmas demon, opens Friday in theaters. Here is some trivia about the film, directed by Michael Dougherty, from imdb.com:

v Origins: In Austria, the Krampus is a goatlike creature that accompanies St. Nicholas (whom the Dutch call Sinterklaas, the name that Santa Claus is based upon) to terrorize naughty children.

v Scary and sentimental: According to Michael Dougherty, this is a Christmas film that is both scary and sentimental. “‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ (1946) are nightmares that show you these broken characters who experience a darker side of divine intervention,” he said. “They need to be scared straight.”

v Final design: The Krampus’ final design was distilled from various postcards and illustrations of the creature over the years.

v Halloween attraction: Krampus was featured in a “scare zone” for Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights 2014.

v Small-screen: Krampus was the focus in the Dec. 13, 2013, episode of “Grimm” titled “Twelve days of Krampus.”

“It’s Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown”: (8 p.m., ABC): Kristen Bell salutes the yuletide special that has been warming hearts and endorsing scrawny trees since 1965. Other performers include Kristin Chenoweth, Matthew Morrison and Sarah McLachlan.

“A Charlie Brown Christmas” (9 p.m., ABC): The blockhead is back for the 50th year.

“Minority Report” (9 p.m., Fox): Season 1 — and probably the entire series — concludes tonight.

“Superstore” (10 p.m., NBC): America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”) returns to prime time in “Superstore.” It’s a workplace comedy about a bunch of goofball employees at a big box store.

“The Great Holiday Baking Show” (10 p.m., ABC): This new competitive baking series shows us which contestants can take the heat.
