LORDSTOWN

After trailing by six at halftime, Lordstown (1-1) rallied to beat Newbury (0-1), 59-54. The Black Knights got an early lead and remained competitive in the contest thanks to 11 three pointers.

Nathan Moore and Chandler England each scored 11 points for Rootstown (1-0) as it snuck by Heartland Christian (0-1). Nathan Sommers led Heartland Christian with 14 points, while Ben Burgess added 10.

In the fourth quarter, Tigers senior Gabby Kline scored her 1,000th career point. She led the Tigers (1-0) with 15 points. Isabelle Kline contributed 12 points and nine rebounds. For the Knights (0-3), Micah Rhodes led with 18 points that included three 3-pointers.

Jensen Silbaugh scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs (3-1) in the Toni Ross Spirit Foundation Tournament at Howland High School. Abbie Becker’s double-double had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Annie Pavlansky scored seven points and made four assists. For Maple Heights (1-2), A’Riana Gray led with 13 points.

Pegan Ochaya paced Mentor (3-0) with 21 points and Nicole Heffington added 20. Sarah Price scored a game-high 22 points for Howland (2-2), while Tori Rappach scored 20 and Mackenzie Maze scored nine.

Brittany Coonce added 11 points and six rebounds and Jill Baker had 10 points for Canfield, which built a 13-2 first-quarter lead. Shymara Dykes led Harding (0-2) with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
