Jackets’ Dubinsky suspended 1 game

COLUMBUS

The NHL has suspended Columbus center Brandon Dubinsky for one game for cross-checking Penguins center Sidney Crosby Friday night.

Dubinsky missed the Blue Jackets’ game in St. Louis on Saturday.

Dubinsky dropped Crosby by driving the shaft of his stick into the back of Crosby’s neck with 80 seconds left in the second period of the Blue Jackets’ 2-1 overtime victory against the Penguins at Nationwide Arena.

When Crosby was down on all fours, Dubinsky broke his stick with a cross-check to Crosby’s lower back.

Crosby missed the rest of the period and underwent the NHL’s concussion protocol, but was cleared to return for the third period.

In a video announcing its ruling, the league’s Department of Player Safety said Dubinsky’s cross-check was “not overly violent or forceful.”

Dubinsky, who has had more than a few run-ins with Crosby during his time with Columbus and the New York Rangers, was assessed only a minor penalty at the time, and insisted after the game that he was not looking to hurt Crosby.

Rangers coach blast Bruins

NEW YORK

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault has criticized Bruins coach Claude Julien for making disparaging comments about New York goaltender Henrik Lundqvist following Boston’s 4-3 win over the Rangers.

Boston forward Brad Marchand was penalized for goaltender interference 7:59 into the third period of Friday’s game. After the game, Julien said Lundqvist embellished the contact between the players to draw a penalty.

“Everybody saw the knee to the head.,” Vigneault said. “The comments on [Lundqvist] were very inappropriate.”
