Registration is being accepted for the ninth year of the Mahoning Valley Local Government Leadership Academy, which runs from January to March.
The nine-week series of classes is offered to help people become effective government leaders and gives class members a broad perspective of how local government operations should be conducted.
Classes take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays with a light dinner at 5:30 p.m. at the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber offices, 17th floor of the First National Bank Tower, 11 Central Square. Cost is $265.

Holiday After Hours business event

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will have a “Holiday After Hours” event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at Holiday Inn Boardman, 7410 South Ave.
In addition to food and spirits, the Holiday Inn Boardman will give tours of its newly remodeled guest rooms.

Tech Belt to host grant seminars

The Valley Alliance for Science and Technology, a membership organization of the Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center, will have a seminar on the basics of the Federal Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the center, 124 W. Market St., Warren.
The grants provide more than $2 billion per year for research and development projects for small businesses.

SBA office to teach tips on health care
CLEVELAND
The Small Business Administration Cleveland office will have a “What the health care law means for your small business” seminar at the Lower Level Amphitheater, 1350 Euclid Ave. Cleveland.
This free seminar will focus on what the health care law, the Affordable Care Act, means for small businesses.
Topics discussed include: small business tax credits (available to businesses and tax-exempt nonprofits) – who’s eligible for them and how to claim them, marketplace updates, shared responsibility, cost containment, tools and resources available for small businesses interested in learning more about the law.
