The Poland library passed out coloring sheets, colored pencils, crayons and markers during the Color You World event on Nov. 4.

Teens and adults came to this event for a chance to relax while coloring and listening to soothing music. To keep in the theme of coloring, colorful snacks were provided. Guests could choose from Skittles, Starbursts and rainbow M&M cookies, along with lemonade and water to drink.

Barb Smith, the librarian supervisor, led the event after having the idea suggested by her sister and niece. She thought it would be a good way for people to relieve stress.

“This event is relaxing and a good way to meet people. The library likes to try and have diverse activities for many people to enjoy,” said Smith.

One of the videos that Smith showed the guests was about 3-D coloring. There are now smartphone apps that one can download to use with certain coloring books. When the phone scans over the book the images appear to pop out of the page. Some brands that offer these 3-D coloring options are Popar, Disney, Quiver and Crayola.

Smith also tries to make her classes a bit informative.

“I try to give everybody a little bit of history, like about crayons and the first coloring book,” she said.

Showing the history of the first coloring supplies gives people an idea of how far the coloring world has come. Art started from first drawing on a flat surface to now being able to use different 3-D art mechanisms.

This event is offered once a month at the Poland library. Coloring tools, sheets and snacks will always be provided, but anyone is more than welcome to bring their own supplies.
