Steam whistles to blow at B&O
Steam whistles to blow at B&O
The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association’s annual Steam Whistle Blow will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the B&O Station grounds, 530 Mahoning Ave., near downtown Youngstown. Admission is free, but it’s $1 to pull the cord and blow a whistle. Those who have steam whistles can have them hooked up for $20. Last year, 28 collectors brought steam whistles. The sounds will recall an era when steam whistles were common and emanated from the area’s steel mills and railroads. Steam hookup is being provided by Youngstown Thermal, and the whistle manifold by Eagle Mechanical. Air power is available for diesel and other horns. The Western Reserve Modular Railroad Club will have a working O-gauge model railroad layout on display at the event. For information, go to mvrha.org.
