YSU police continue investigation into pro-ISIS graffiti on The Rock

YOUNGSTOWN

The investigation into who painted pro-ISIS messages on The Rock at Youngstown State University continues, but a suspect hasn’t been identified.

Shannon Tirone, associate vice president of university affairs, said YSU police spoke Monday night to student organizations that met Sunday evening to determine if any students witnessed anything out of the ordinary.

“The tip line is still open,” she said.

That number is 330-941-3527, but people also can submit tips anonymously through the campus police website.

While there are no security cameras specifically pointed at The Rock, police are reviewing security footage from cameras in surrounding buildings.

“We have cameras capturing safety areas – steps, entrances, exits,” Tirone said.

Additionally, a student reported Monday afternoon finding “Jihad” written on a men’s restroom wall on the third floor of Cushwa Hall. Campus police took a report.

The painting on The Rock was discovered early Monday.

University crews painted over it with white paint shortly after finding it.

A group of students Monday afternoon repainted The Rock with an American flag and patriotic slogans.
