Handel’s ‘Messiah’ at St. Vitus church

NEW CASTLE, PA.

The New Castle Music Club Chorus’s 75th presentation of Handel’s “Messiah” will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at St. Vitus church, 910 S. Mercer St. Accompanist on organ will be Kathryn Miller, director of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman, organist at Temple Rodef Shalom in Youngstown, and adjunct faculty at Youngstown State University. The soprano soloist will be Kathleen Bachtel, the tenor soloist will be Victor Cardamone, trumpeter will be Andy Erb, and flautist will be Sharon Perschke.

Artists reception, sale at M Gallery

YOUNGSTOWN

An artists reception for an exhibition of works by Jack Carlton of Youngstown, Glenn Ratusnik of Cleveland and Zygote Press will be Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at M Gallery, in Erie Terminal Place, 112 W. Commerce St., downtown. The exhibition, titled “About Places: Perspectives in Printmaking,” runs through Jan. 8. All works are for sale.

The Star Band headlines show

LIBERTY

The Star Band, of Cleveland, with Trina Bledsoe of Columbus and Charisma of Youngstown, will highlight a show at Monteen’s Southern Cuisine, 3807 Belmont Ave., Saturday at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door ($15 in advance at Monteen’s).

On Friday, Monteen’s will be the site of East High School’s Class of 1975 “get reacquainted” night. Admission to the event, which is open to the public, is $10.

Celebrity chef Flay on racing board

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.

Celebrity chef and thoroughbred horse owner Bobby Flay has been appointed to the board of trustees of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

The announcement was made Monday by museum president Gretchen Jackson.

Flay has had several stakes winners, including Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner More Than Real.
