Liberty Township trustees OK new police cruiser

Staff report

LIBERTY

Township trustees approved the purchase of a 2013 Ford Taurus to be used as a police cruiser. The township will pay $8,696 to Ace Equipment North of Cortland for the four-door sedan.

Trustees this week also congratulated the police department for its recognition as a 2015 Distinguished Law Enforcement Agency, as determined by the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Task Force.

Township Police Chief Richard Tisone received a plaque.

Liberty Township participates in the agency’s Drug Task Force, which spearheaded a two-year investigation into Northeast Ohio drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, officers seized more than 1,700 grams of heroin. Additionally, 18 people were indicted in the U.S. District Court on 129 counts, and 37 people were indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury.
