A woman with 16 open suspensions drove away from a traffic stop Saturday evening before driving her car off a South Side embankment, police said.

Yolanda Winlock, 44, of Victor Avenue, was arraigned in municipal court Monday on charges of tampering with evidence, driving under suspension and failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. Judge Robert Milich set her bond at $30,000.

Reports said officers tried to pull over a car Winlock was driving about 9:10 p.m. Saturday on Parkcliffe Avenue near Glenwood Avenue for an illegal turn, and Winlock pulled over.

As an officer walked up to the car Winlock could be seen stuffing an object down her pants that looked like crack cocaine, reports said, and before the officer could get to her car, she drove away.

Police chased her on several South Side streets at speeds up to 75 mph but broke off the chase on Hillman Avenue because of the high speeds, reports said.

Reports said about 10 minutes after the chase broke off, they got a 911 call from someone on Kist Avenue near New Court who said a car was driven off an embankment and a woman inside the car was running away.

Police went there and a witness told them the driver of the car was in a nearby home.

Police got permission to go inside the home and found Winlock inside, reports said. She was then taken into custody.

Reports said a record check revealed Winlock has 16 open suspensions on her driver’s license.
