Woman arraigned after brief chase

YOUNGSTOWN

Police said a woman who drove away from a traffic stop Friday evening had two toddlers in her car and a small amount of suspected marijuana.

Alicia Davis, 25, was arraigned in municipal court Monday on charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, possession of drugs/marijuana, child restraint and driving under suspension. She is free on bond.

Reports said officers tried to pull over a car Davis was driving about 10:55 p.m. Friday because it failed to stop at a stop sign. Reports said she failed to stop until she pulled in a drive in the first block of Brooklyn Avenue and ran out of the car. Police managed to catch her after a short foot chase.

Inside the car were two children, age 2 and 3, and they were not in child-safety seats, reports said. Reports said there were two bags of suspected marijuana inside a purse in the glove compartment. The children were given to a relative, reports said.

Friday’s stop was the second for driving under suspension this month for Davis. She also was cited for driving under suspension Nov. 2, according to court records.

In 2012, Davis served 30 days in the Mahoning County jail after pleading guilty to a charge of misconduct at an emergency after police said she was one of several people involved in the 2011 beating of a city police officer.
