Mercy Health to offer healthy cooking classes

Mercy Health Youngstown will provide free healthy eating/cooking classes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road.

The classes and demonstrations are provided through a grant from the Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley as a regular part of Stepping Out programming.

Stepping Out provides free fitness classes, health screenings, healthy eating and cooking classes year-round at neighborhood centers in Youngstown and Warren.

Joshua’s Haven sets open house

SHARON, PA.

Joshua’s Haven City Mission will host an open house Dec. 6 at its new site, 1230 Stambaugh Ave.

A ribbon-cutting is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. followed by tours of the building.

Fundraisers, a spaghetti dinner and basket auction, will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Live music also will be featured.

Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and children. Tickets may be obtained in advance or at the door.

Cookie Walk to benefit Legacy Dog Rescue

Legacy Dog Rescue is planning two holiday events that will each take place from noon to 5 p.m. at Family Video, 4385 Kirk Road.

The organization will offer pictures with Santa for pets, kids and families Dec. 5.

Cost for an email-only photo will be $5; a print-and-take 4-by-6- inch photo is $7; and ordering a 5-by-7-inch photo will cost $10.

The rescue also will host a Cookie Walk on Dec. 12.

Guests will mix a selection of homemade cookies, brownies, cupcakes and other sweets for $5 a dozen.

Proceeds from both events will benefit the rescue and its mission to help the abused, neglected and abandoned dogs of Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
