Thanksgiving event
BOARDMAN
The inaugural What We’re Thankful 4-miler and 3K walk presented by Second Sole Boardman will take place on Thanksgiving morning at the Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.
The 3K walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the 4-mile run starting at 9 a.m. The entry fee for both events is $20.
Registration is available online at www.secondsoleohio.com through Monday, or at Second Sole, 755 Boardman-Canfield Road, through Wednesday. Early packet pickup also will take place at Second Sole on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Proceeds from these events will benefit the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program and Second Harvest Food Bank.

Big grass fire
CHAMPION
Firefighters from several Trumbull County departments helped Champion Fire Department extinguish an extensive grass fire Saturday at the intersection of Airport Road and the Western Reserve Green Bike Trail.
The fire on a 3- to 5-acre parcel was called in at 1:49 p.m., according to a Trumbull County 911 official. No injuries were reported. No structures were involved.
Departments aiding Champion included Southington, Warren Township, Braceville, Bristol and Farmington, officials said.
Ridge Road detour
FOWLER
Ridge Road, a quarter-mile north of Everett Cortland Hull Road, will be closed Monday and Tuesday for culvert replacement.
The recommended detour route is east on Everett Cortland Hull Road, north on state Route 193, west on Bradley Brownlee Road, and north on Ridge Road.
Canfield Towing fire
CANFIELD
A structure fire at Canfield Towing, 7131 U.S. Route 224, about 1:30 a.m. Saturday caused moderate damage to the building.
Firefighters from Canfield, Green, Boardman and Austintown fire departments responded to the blaze, the cause of which is unknown, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
The Canfield Fire Department is investigating.
Hair, Nail-a-Thon
CANFIELD
Seniors in the cosmetology program at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will host their annual Hair- and Nail-A-Thon fundraiser from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at The Salon at MCCTC, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.
Salon services available include haircuts, blow drying, styling, waxing and manicures, all for $10. All proceeds raised will go toward the senior-class trip to Columbus to take their state board exams.

Apartment fire
BOARDMAN
The cause of a Saturday fire in the lower level utility room of an apartment complex at 4010 Hillman Way is under investigation.
There were no injuries in the blaze, which was reported at 2:22 p.m. and was contained within two hours, said Boardman Fire Capt. William Glaser.
Boardman firefighters were assisted by units from Canfield and Youngstown fire departments.
