Earnheardt releases “Switch-A-Wish”

Three Worlds Press is announcing the release of “Switch-A-Wish,” a work of fiction by local author M.B. Earnheardt.

The book follows Chris and Amanda Claridge, a long-married but troubled couple. Both make a late-night wish to live the life of their partner; when the wish comes true, the Claridges find that neither has it as good or bad as they expected.

Earnheardt grew up in Mahaffey, Pa., and lives in Youngstown. The book is her first work of fiction. She teaches journalism courses at Youngstown State University.

Talk and book signing at Steel Museum

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, 151 W. Wood St., will host a book signing and discussion from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday.

“Italian Americans of the Mahoning Valley,” authored by Dr. Donna DeBlasio and Dr. Martha I. Pallante, details the important contributions of Italian Americans to the steel industry in Northeast Ohio.

Dr. DeBlasio is a professor of history and director of the Center for Applied History at Youngstown State University. Dr. Pallante is a professor and chairwoman of the history department at YSU.

New book explores Lisbon in photos

Ruth Gerrard Cole is the author of a new pictorial history title, “Images of America: Lisbon,” published by Arcadia Publishing and History Press.

The book explores the creation, growth and notable moments in the history of the Columbiana County village through images.

Explorations of notable residents and historic homes also are featured.

The author is a Lisbon resident, graduate of Lisbon schools and a retired English teacher, and has served on the Lisbon Historical Society’s board of directors for six years.

B&N event will celebrate short fiction

Celebrate Short Fiction Day is planned for 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 21 at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 381 Boardman-Poland Road.

The event, organized by local author Nancy Christie, will offer local writers the opportunity to share their work with bookstore patrons. Participants can read their own work or share a short story by their favorite author. Pope Francis answers letters in new book

NEW YORK

A new book from Pope Francis will be for young readers.

“Dear Pope Francis: The Pope Answers Letters From Children Around the World” will be published March 1, the Chicago-based Loyola Press announced last week.

According to Loyola, a nonprofit Jesuit ministry, the book includes the pope’s responses to 30 handwritten letters from children age 6 to 13 from around the world.

Themes of the book include “concerns about the afterlife; a strong sense of justice, both social and theological; the importance of family; and a longing to be seen and heard.”
