Steubenville 62, Howland 61

STEUBENVILLE

Lysiah Rice hit a driving layup with 10 seconds to play to complete a comeback from a nine-point deficit by the Big Red. The Tigers’ Victoria Rappach missed a 14-footer at the buzzer as Howland fell just short in the season opener for both teams. Rice led Steubenville with 21 points and teammates Hannah Masloski, Elisa Watts and Tenia Barker each added eight points. Howland led by nine with 3:25 to play, but could not hold the lead despite a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds from Sara Price and 22 points — including six 3-pointers — by Rappach.

Boardman 56, Ursuline 48

YOUNGSTOWN

Lauren Pavlansky was the leading scorer for Boardman with 18 points, followed closely by Krista Johnson with 17 points. Jenna Vino also contributed 13 points for the Spartans. Dayshanette Harris led the Irish with 20 points against the Spartans, with help from Simone Comer, who had eight points, and Megan Ross, who had six points.

Girard 67, Hubbard 21

GIRARD

Girard dominated this game against Hubbard with Ali Cimenero and Megan Paylich leading Girard with 21 and 14 points respectively. Cimenero scored three 3-point goals and Alejon scored one. For Hubbard, Logan Nitsche led with nine points and scored three 3-pointers for her team, while Marissa Grande made good both of her free throws.

Lakeview 60, Ravenna Southeast 51

CORTLAND

Lakeview held off Ravenna after falling behind four points in the first quarter, with Addie Becker leading the team with 16 points and two 3-point shots, and Jensen Silbaugh contributed two 3-pointers as well. Danielle Norquest led Southeast with 26 points, and Madi Willis had three 3-point shots for a total of 10 points.

Jackson-Milton 53, Mathews 36

JACKSON

Jackson had a decisive win for its home opener against Mathews yesterday. Maclena Terranova led Jackson with 19 total points and one free throw from the line, and Olivia Wolf scored on both of her free throws. For Mathews, Kat Schubert led with 11 total points and three for six free throws, and Paige Stomesler scored on both of her free throws as well.

South Range 84, Pymatuning Valley 40

BOARDMAN

South Range had the upper hand in this game, with strong contributions from Morgan Czopur and Maddie Durkin, who scored 23 and 22 points respectively. Czopur scored three for three of her free throws, and Durking scored four for eight. Lynnie Ritter had 12 rebounds for South Range. For Pymatuning, K. Hall scored 10 points with four for four free throws, and M. Hurst scored seven points and five for 10 free throws.

Columbiana 46, Western Reserve 35

COLUMBIANA

Columbiana’s Alexis Cross scored a game-high 17 points, with help from Mariah Rovnak, who tacked on 11. For Western Reserve, Lauren Falasca had 11 points. Syndey Miller and Heather Lude each contributed six points, while Alexis Hughes contributed seven.

Maplewood 35, Heartland Christian 19

COLUMBIANA

Maplewood’s Patterson scored a game-high 13 points. Kassandra Scott had one 3-pointer and contributed eight points. Avery Pennington and Mackenzie Harrington both scored six points for Heartland Christian. Harrington led with two 3-point goals, and Olivia Hostetler contributed an additional 3-point goal.

Middlefield 65, Bristol 29

MIDDLEFIELD

Hailee Elza led Bristol with 14 points, followed by Kaylie Rowland with 11 points. For Middlefield, Leichtman had 15 points, Coubanyar had 12 points, and Adams added on 11 points.
