YOUNGSTOWN
Nevels Temple Church of God In Christ, 939 Elm St., will offer an additional sign-up day for a December free toy giveaway. The sign-up will be from 1 to about 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
The toy giveaway will be offered for infants through children age 17.
To participate, individuals cannot be signed up for Christmas toy assistance at the Salvation Army.
Guests to the sign-up must show proof of income; proof of guardianship for any child in custody; Social Security or medical cards for each child; or a printout from Job and Family Services showing all the aforementioned information.
Bishop elected
YOUNGSTOWN
At the annual Fall General Assembly this week in Baltimore, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops elected Bishop George V. Murry of the Diocese of Youngstown as chairman of the Committee on Catholic Education.
Bishop Murry will serve for one year as chairman-elect before beginning a three-year term.
Group to fill, deliver food bags for seniors
LIBERTY
The Youngstown-Warren Realtist Association, a local chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, will fill food bags for seniors in Trumbull and Mahoning counties at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Liberty room of the Hampton Inn, 4400 Belmont Ave., and deliveries will follow.
The association’s goal is to feed about 200 area seniors who live in senior-citizen housing.
The bags will benefit seniors on a fixed income who lack transportation or have physical limitations that make them unable to attend other food giveaways in the area.
The bags will include a whole chicken, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, string beans and stuffing.

Alleged threats
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown Police Department on Thursday determined there was no substance to alleged threats made on social media against Youngstown State University, said Ronald A. Cole, university spokesman.
