POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

Nov. 12

Theft: Two people discovered jewelry, $500, an iPhone and other items missing from their North State Street home. The loss came to $3,060.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Taylor Avenue woman said her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend took her 2001 Dodge vehicle without permission.

Nov. 13

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 400 block of North State Street used a key to do $500 in damage to a car’s finish.

Harassment: A Trumbull Court woman told police she’s received three or four such calls daily over a two- or three-year period.

Nov. 14

Domestic violence: Anthony McDonald, 42, of East Broadway Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged he pushed and kicked her during an argument. Earlier, McDonald, had pulled her into a vehicle by her hair and dragged the accuser a few feet while the car was moving, a report showed.

Trespassing: Officers responding to a complaint about an unwanted person in the 10 block of South Ward Avenue charged a 16-year-old girl with criminal trespassing after saying the teen had refused several times to leave the residence.

Menacing: Three Trumbull Avenue residents reported a man who was moving from his home threatened to beat up one of the accusers and set fire to their residence.

Theft: An East Second Street woman saw that two tires had been removed from her car.

Nov. 15

Menacing: A North State Street man said he got threatening text messages related to the sale of a wristwatch.

Nov. 16

Theft: A Patricia Drive man found out his debit card had been used without authorization to make two such charges totaling $533 in California.

Arrest: Police received a tip regarding a possible intoxicated driver on U.S. Route 422 before charging Shane M. McGee of West Liberty Street, Girard, with one felony count of operating a vehicle impaired. The 27-year-old McGee’s charge was elevated because of three prior convictions within the last six years, a report showed.

LIBERTY

Nov. 12

Arrest: While responding to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police charged 24-year-old Michael F. Seidita with obstructing official business after alleging Seidita, of West Wood Street, Lowellville, had provided a false name and date of birth.

Possible harassment: A Keefer Road woman told police she suspects a 22-year-old man has been coming to her residence when she’s not home to see her 15-year-old daughter.

Arrest: Brookfield police handed Dena G. Gershman of Mahoning Avenue Northwest, Warren, to Liberty authorities. Gershman, 40, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Nov. 13

Arrest: Curtis E. Bevly Jr., 20, of Shehy Street, Youngstown, was picked up in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue. He was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Burglary: To a residence in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard, though police found no signs of forced entry. Stolen was a 42-inch flat-screen TV.

Theft: A man and a woman reportedly short-changed a cashier $95 at Subway, 4501 Belmont Ave., then left in a white vehicle.

Nov. 14

Theft: A township woman reported her son’s $450 iPhone stolen from his locker at W.S. Guy Middle School, 4115 Shady Road.

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue exchanged custody of 34-year-old Machelle D. Sydney with township authorities. Sydney, of Alameda Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a probation-violation charge.

Nov. 16

Arrest: Jade Scofield, 24, of Naylor-Lloyd Road, Girard, was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail on a township warrant.

Nov. 17

Harassment: A Colonial Drive man reported an acquaintance had sent him several unwanted text messages, including one containing what he took as a threat.

Theft: A man discovered a toolbox, miscellaneous tools and a hedge trimmer missing from his work van while in the 1000 block of Trumbull Avenue.

Robbery: A man in his 20s wearing a gray jacket and threatening to have a concealed firearm placed a package of candy on a counter and robbed a Speedway gas station, 4210 Belmont Ave., of an undisclosed sum of money before leaving on foot.

Stolen property: An elderly woman learned that several pieces of jewelry stolen from her Overbrook Drive home were sold at a Belmont Avenue business.

HUBBARD

Nov. 12

Theft: An employer with Hubbard Music, 51 N. Main St., alleged a former worker had stolen a $575 electric guitar from the store.

Nov. 14

Burglary: Someone entered a garage and the residence in the 100 block of Erie Street and removed a .357 Magnum pistol from a locked safe, as well as a Sony PlayStation 3 game system from the home. No signs of forced entry were found, however, police said.

Nov. 16

Identity fraud: A Fifth Avenue woman reported a man who had contacted her via Facebook tricked her into providing her bank-account number. A short time later, the accuser realized her account was overdrawn $1,360.

Menacing: A 15-year-old student at Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave., reported a fellow student had threatened her.

Nov. 17

Misuse of a credit card: Jacob C. Sprankle, 37, of Mock Street, Hubbard, faced charges of theft and misuse of a credit card after his mother alleged Sprankle had cashed three of her checks without permission. Also, she reported $260, a pair of shoes and $1,500 in gift cards missing.
