STRUTHERS

Two Struthers Elementary School students toured the Struthers Federal Credit Union on Wednesday afternoon after the credit union’s donation to the district.

The third-grade students, assisted by Linda Kretsel, credit union manager, pretended to open a savings account and learned about banking.

Third-grade teacher Amy Sainato said the experience tied into the students’ economics curriculum, which includes lessons on financial responsibility and interest.

Administrators with Struthers City Schools thanked the credit union for its donation of about $300 in school supplies, including several high-tech calculators.

The Struthers Federal Credit Union, located on Poland Avenue, began as a credit union exclusively for school employees, but now extends membership to anyone living within the Struthers City Schools District. The credit union merged with the YD Employees Federal Credit Union in 1987.
