Palmy Chapter of OES conducts installation

The 116th installation of officers of Palmy Chapter No. 114, Order of the Eastern Star, took place recently at Deerfield Mason Hall, 2380 state Route 225, with 33 members, 56 visitors and 12 guests attending.

Elected were Kristy Woodford, worthy matron; Rhys Sampson, worthy patron; Milly Keller, associate matron; Donald Sampson Jr., associate patron; Beth Cooper, conductress; Wilda Autry, associate conductress; William Westover; secretary; and Bruce Slagle, treasurer.

Those appointed to serve were Lydia Caskey, chaplain; Richard Sampson, marshal; Sally Sampson, organist; Frances Hall, Adah; Nancy Lee, Ruth; Betty Coss, Esther; Dianna McKenzie, Martha; Joyce Kuss, Electa; Betty Naugle, warder; and Layne Autry, sentinel.

Installing officers were Sandee Hyde, junior past deputy grand matron; David Hyde, assisting installing officer; Debbie Wolfe, installing marshal; Lynne Peters, installing chaplain; and Diane Phillips, installing organist.

Adding to the significance of the event was that it was signed for the benefit of the worthy matron’s daughter, Kelly Woodford, who is deaf.

The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong. Worldwide, there are more than 500,000 members. The organization was created in the United States in the early 19th century to allow women to join with their Masonic relatives in promoting the values and charitable purposes that are part of the Masonic fraternity.

Locally, Palmy Chapter supports Back Door Pantry at Palmyra United Methodist Church and Grand Chapter Charities including heart, cancer, dyslexia, Eastern Star training award for religious studies, youth, education fund, and Eastern Star Home at Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Palmy Chapter sponsors a monthly soup and salad meal from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. the third Thursday of each month at Deerfield Masonic Hall. Cost is $6 and includes tossed green salad, choice of homemade soups, dessert and beverage.
