No charges in Campbell for false website posting

CAMPBELL — The city will not pursue charges against the creator of a "Youngstown Angels" website after a post published Thursday. The post entitled "Campbell Elementary Student Brings Gun to School?" claimed that a "concerned parent" said a girl brought a gun to the elementary school Wednesday. The post also suggests that police and the district attempted to cover up the incident.

The superintendent and police stated that the post's allegations were false.

Police initially said they planned to pursue inducing panic against the page's creator, but Campbell Law Director Brian Macala said he believed the post's author was merely misinformed.

"I do not believe there was criminal intent," Macala said. "I think he was just confused. ... In the future, I would suggest that he gather more information before posting something on the Internet."
