ENVIROTHON LaBrae team places in top half at state

LEAVITTSBURG
The LaBrae High School Envirothon team that finished first in a statewide competition in Loudonville finished 19th out of 52 teams at the North American Envirothon that took place in Missouri in July.
The Envirothon tests teams on their knowledge of soils and land use, aquatic ecology, forestry, wildlife and a current issue (urban/community forests).
The team also will travel to Columbus to represent Trumbull County at the Student Achievement Fair.
The fair is sponsored by the Ohio School Boards Association and will feature presentations and displays from 100 schools. LaBrae’s team has created a display highlighting Trumbull County’s natural resources and how they integrate into the Envirothon competition and classroom curriculum.
The team also took third place in the Audobon 24-hour bird competition Oct. 10.
The team consists of Joey Jaros, Caleb Hineman, Tessa Smith, Alexus Nubani and Maddie Cope. The adviser is Craig Klotzbach.
