Stambaugh youth band in fall concert

The Stambaugh Youth Concert Band’s annual fall concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Stambaugh Auditorium.

The program will include pieces from a variety of composers, including:

“The Star Spangled Banner,” arranged by Brian Balmages.

“Flourish for Wind Band” by Ralph Vaughn Williams

“December Dance” by Andrew Boysen

“Prelude,” “Siciliano” and “Rondo” by Malcolm Arnold

“Magnum Mysterium” by Morten Lauridsen, arranged by H. Robert Reynolds

“A La Samba” (percussion ensemble) by Mitchell Peters

“Today Is the Gift” by Samuel Hazo

The SYCB is composed of the top high school musicians from Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. This year, 80 students are participating. The ensemble is under the direction of John Veneskey and Brandt Payne, and percussion instructor Tyler Husosky.

The band rehearses weekly at Stambaugh Auditorium from September through April and presents two concerts per year. The spring concert traditionally features senior soloists, who also are chosen through an audition process, as well as awarding the Barbara Armstrong Memorial Youth Band Scholarship to a senior.
