Hubbard man charged with OVI

Police say a Hubbard man who almost hit a cruiser early Wednesday on Logan Avenue was more than three times over the legal limit for being drunk.

Reports said an officer spotted a car driven by Joshua Parkany, 22, about 2:20 a.m. driving with only one headlight. The car was swerving, almost hit a cruiser driven by officer Ryan Laatsch, who was driving in the opposite lane, and drove over a curb and sidewalk before Laatsch managed to pull the car over at Logan and Oriole avenues on the North Side, according to police.

Reports said the car had heavy damage to its front end and that Parkany could barely talk or move.

He was helped out of the car and taken to the police station, where he consented to a blood-alcohol test. Reports said officers waited 20 minutes and then gave Parkany the test. He registered a BAC of 0.299, reports said. The legal standard for drunken driving in Ohio is 0.08 and above.

Parkany was cited for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol with a BAC of more than .17.
