Thief kills dog
YOUNGSTOWN
A thief ransacked a home in the 300 Block of Cornell Street Wednesday between 1 and 1:45 p.m., stole almost everything of value, and shot the owner’s dog in the head, killing it.
Police said the side door, which was secured at about 1 a.m., appeared to have been forced open. The dog was in the basement.
Authorities recovered a live .22-caliber round on the floor of the basement near the dog, a spent .22-caliber round used to kill the dog, and another live .22-caliber round on the driveway. No gun was found.
Stocking-stuffer event

The Girard chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles will host a Stocking-Stuffer Extravaganza from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 26 W. Wilson Ave. Concessions and items for Christmas stockings will be on sale at affordable prices. Proceeds will benefit a needy family.
Marijuana charges

Two women will face a pretrial hearing Dec. 4 on charges including trafficking in marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Priscilla Pipe, 24, of Youngstown and Alyse Monroe, 23, of Boardman were arraigned Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court. Officers pulled the women over Friday evening near Wilson Avenue for a missing tail light, according to a police report. The report states that officers searched the vehicle due to the smell of marijuana and found both medical and recreational grade marijuana. Police reported finding more than 50 grams total of suspected marijuana in addition to two digital scales, burnt marijuana cigarettes, eight packages of needle tips, plastic bags and a suspected vape.
Neil Kennedy grant

The Youngstown Foundation recently awarded a $25,000 grant for renovations to Gateway Rehab’s Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic on Rush Boulevard.
“We’re grateful to have the support of The Youngstown Foundation. The Rush Boulevard clinic has served the Youngstown community for 48 years, providing care for individuals affected by the disease of addiction,” said Carolyn Givens, clinic executive director.
“With surging substance misuse locally and across our state, this grant will allow us to update a heavily used facility so that we may continue providing high quality treatment services well into the future,” she said.
