Hubbard Township suspends traffic camera use on I-80

HUBBARD — Township trustees voted this week to temporarily suspend the use of a manned radar speed camera on Interstate 80, so that the township can look at the legality of the camera under Ohio law.

Trustee chairman Fred Hanley said, as of Monday night, township police are prohibited from using the camera on Interstate 80, though he said he believes they will be able to use the camera elsewhere in the township.

The township entered into an agreement with a private company called Blue Line Solutions for issuing civil citations resulting from the camera. Under the agreement, the township receives 65 percent of ticket revenue and Blue Line receives 35 percent.

The township began using the camera this summer. Hanley said the initiative arose as a way to reduce fatalities on Interstate 80.
