Anthony Davis scored 17 points before leaving at halftime with a bruised right hip, and the New Orleans Pelicans won their first victory of the season. Davis helped the Pelicans (1-6) build an 18-point halftime lead that never dipped below 14 points even after he left. Team officials said X-rays on the All-Star forward’s hip were negative, but they were holding him out as a precaution.

The Celtics scored 18 of the final 20 points in the third quarter to win consecutive games after losing three in a row.

Jeremy Lin scored 19 points and Jeremy Lamb added 18 to lead the Charlotte. Nicolas Batum added 17 points for the Hornets, who overcame a combined 7-for-21 shooting from Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker to beat the depleted Timberwolves. Karl-Anthony Towns had 19 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks for the Timberwolves, who played without starters Andrew Wiggins (sore right knee), Ricky Rubio (sore left knee) and Kevin Garnett (rest). Zach LaVine added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points and Lance Thomas added 17 off the bench for the Knicks. DeMar DeRozan had a season-high 29 points for Toronto, while Kyle Lowry had 23 points and nine rebounds. The victory was New York’s third on the road this season after winning just seven times away from Madison Square Garden last year.

Kobe Bryant sat out for the Lakers, resting for the first time this season. Nick Young led Los Angeles with 17 points. Lou Williams and Metta World Peace each scored 14 for the Lakers, who also got 12 from Jordan Clarkson.

Kevin Durant left at halftime with a strained left hamstring and Russell Westbrook took over, compiling a triple-double with 22 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds to lead Oklahoma City. Durant, second in the NBA in scoring entering the night, had 14 points and 10 rebounds in the first half. With less than a minute remaining in the second quarter, Durant was fouled by Kris Humphries on a drive to the basket and then limped a bit, clutching at the back of his left leg.
