SounDoctrine to release 4th studio album

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Jazz-fusion band and national recording artists SounDoctrine will release “Source,” its fourth studio CD, on Friday.

“Source” contains 13 original compositions written collaboratively by the Youngstown-based act, and also the Bobby Womack cover “Stop On By,” made famous by Chaka Khan, and featuring Eric Tyus on guitar. The single is currently receiving worldwide airplay on smooth-jazz radio.

As with past projects, the CD features a variety of regional guest artists, including Michael Austin, Janis Jones, Sheldon Grayson, Mike Donadio and newcomer Ayana Symone, making her recording debut.

“Source” will be available both as a hard copy and digitally at online retailers CD Baby, Amazon, iTunes and at soundoctrine.com.

“We took tons of risks with this album,” said SounDoctrine producer and drummer Jere B. “We intentionally experimented with unusual sonic spaces, are far more outspoken about our faith and tried to push as many envelopes and buttons as we could, musically and otherwise.”

The entire album is currently streaming online at soundoctrine.com.

The band will perform at Akron Civic Theater on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. as part of the Jazz at the Civic Series. For tickets, call 330-253-2488.
