The 49th annual Country Music Awards ceremony is tonight (8 p.m. on ABC), with Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church and Miranda Lambert vying for Entertainer of the Year. Here is a look at last year’s winners in five major categories:

v Entertainer of the Year: Luke Bryan

v Album of the Year: Miranda Lambert, “Platinum”

v Single of the Year: Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, “Follow Your Arrow”

CMA Awards (8 p.m., ABC): It’s the biggest night in country music as Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood team up once again to host the 49th annual CMA Awards. Performers include Hank Williams Jr., Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett and more.

“Nova” (9 p.m., PBS): “Nova” takes viewers on an epic 18-state road trip for the three-part series “Making North America.” Along the way, host Kirk Johnson explains how our magnificent continent came to be.

Packard band in tribute to veterans

WARREN

The W.D. Packard Concert Band, under the baton of guest conductor Loras John Schissel, will present a free concert to pay tribute to local war veterans at 3 p.m. Sunday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW.

The program will include a salute to all branches of the armed forces, including “The Caisson Song,” “Semper Paratus,” “The Marines’ Hymn,” “Heave Ho,” “Anchors Aweigh” and “The United States Air Force.”

All veterans will be asked to stand for the playing of their service song.

Guitar ensemble in free concert

YOUNGSTOWN

The Dana Guitar Ensemble, directed by Francois Fowler, will give a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the recital hall in Bliss Hall on the campus of Youngstown State University. Guest artist will be guitarist and composer Brad Shepik, who teaches at New York University.

Trumpet-organ duo in concert

WARREN

Vinny DiMartino, one of the most sought-after classical-jazz trumpet players in the United States, and Schuyler Robinson, head of the organ department at the University of Kentucky, will perform a trumpet-organ duo concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Christ Episcopal Church, 2627 Atlantic Street NE, as part of the Arts on Atlantic series. A free-will offering will be received.

DiMartino retired after 21 years at the University of Kentucky and 19 at Centre College. He has performed with such greats as Doc Severinson and Dizzy Gillepsie, and was once a regular with the Warren Chamber Orchestra.

Robinson has served as professor of organ and harpsichord at the University of Kentucky since 1982.

The trumpet-organ duo has performed in 22 states and produced a recording, “The Art of the Transcription,” which was chosen as the International Trumpet Guild’s CD of the Year in 1995.
